CASABLANCA

Interview with Ryan Roxie

Hi, you’re speaking with Ryan Roxie from Casablanca and we are in the room right before Crazy Nights Music and Festival, first annual.

How does it feel to play here tonight?

I’m really looking forward to it because it’s the first Crazy Nights Festival and in one way or another, Casablancas first proper show.

We’re gonna play in front of the audience we want to play for. We’ve done some TV things and we’ve been lucky enough to play some big shows but to play in front of our hardcore audience, a bunch of rock’n’rollers that lives and breath rock’n’roll 24/7. That’s the audience that we want to have so we’re taking the songs to the people tonight. We’ll see. Either they like us or they hate us.

Are you gonna play at any festivals this summer?

Yeah, this summer, we call it the ”Casablanca building the foundation”. We’re gonna be in the trenches. Wherever we can play. We can play nice big festivals, nice good shows with bands that we respect or bands that I think is compatible with us. We’re also lucky enough to be supporting KISS in Malmö so that’s gonna be a big show for us as well. That’s comig up in…..I think it’s 13th June.

Is that the one you’re looking forward to the most?

Well I mean anytime that you play at Stadion you kind of look forward to it no matter what band your in. And you’re playing with a band that you grew up listening to so of course. Everybody in the band is future KISS fans so that’s gonna be a highlight, but to be onest with you. Any show that we play and we all go on stage together is kind of like something special for us. We made an album and we’re dying to get it out and we’re really exited for people to hear it. So anytime we get on stage we’re like, this is the show, this i the show where we have to prove ourselfs. You know, we have a lot of proving to do. We can’t rely on the names of the other bands that we come from. We have to walk on our own.

Is there any band that you really really would like to play with, exept for KISS?

Well I’m kind of wearing them on my chest. I’m wearing a Cheap Trick shirt tonight. That’s one of my favorite bands. I think their playing at Sweden Rock sometime this year. I think their is a couple of really optimal bands that Casablanca could play with, that would be good double bill or good tours. Anything to me that lives and breath rock’n’roll is a good band for Casablanca. Cuz we are pretty much guitar driven, not a lot of bull shit, girl drummer, you know, former fotball playing bass player. Those are thing that you can talk about on the side. The main focus is the songs and hopefully the guitars rip your head off.

Have you ever had any fan that did something really crazy?

Hahaha, I don’t know what’s considered as crazy?

What you think is crazy, like stripping or….

Well stripping is not so crazy, I do it every night.

You do?

Yeah, before I go to bed, haha.  Don’t you?

Well I think that one of the most, well not crazy things, but dedicated things is to see the types of fans that are willing to follow you when you go on tour.

I was just talking to the guys here about these two polish guys that follows us.

Both with Alice Cooper and my own band. They meet us at the airport around the whole tour. We see them at every show waving up a huge big polish flag, no matter what country they’re in. They never really bothered us that much, were never in our faces. Like stalkers, but friendly stalkers. For me to be that passionate and follow their favorite band, that’s a bit crazy cuz I don’t know if I would do that myself. But I’m fucking thankful that they do it. It gives me a job, or continues to give me a job.

Could you be naked on a show and what would you ask for to do it, charity e.t.c?

I do a lot of things for charity but I’m not shure that seeing me naked would actually give any donations. Haha. I had those blond dreads a few years back and I actually cut them all of for charity – Dreads for bread. I guess, to strip naked, why not. I’ve been on all the other rides so far. If I would strip the only thing I would ask for is a warm room, not a cold room for obvious reasons. Haha.

Haha, I have a funny question for you…

You mean the last one wasn’t?

What keeps you going - music, mayhem, money or mus?

Isn’t that the title of the new Crashdiet album? Haha my answer would be that is their new album. Well off course that’s what keeps us all going.

It’s the dream, playing in front of an audience, and having that audience accept your music and get something out of it. And be able to wake up the next morning and do it again, and then again and then pretty soon it’s not just a job, it’s not just a passion, it’s a carreer. So that’s like what keeps you going. I think it keeps me hungry.

I’ve been lucky enough to play with some big names trough the last few years. But the thing is, it’s time now for me to sort of have my own, to do it on my own and make my own mark as well. As much as I’m happy to be a part of everybody in like Alices (Cooper) career I’m as happy going on with mine.

Have you been wanting to do this even since you were a kid?

Yeah, everybody says that you have to have a backup plan and you’re supose to go to this school and this school.

In this world we’re kind of designed to do what we do best.

I don’t think you need a backup plan, then you probably don’t do the one thing you wanna do really really good.

Haha listen I’m not your psychologist, maybe you should get on the cauch, haha.

No I’m a bartender…

So you are a psychologist, haha…

No but it’s true, we all have something that we’re passionate about in life and that’s what we should focus on. Fortunately I’m one of those lucky guys that always been able to do what I want to do since a very young age. I decided that I wanted to do this for a living basicly when I was like 7 years old. Thak god for like the Partage family TV-show and a lot of cool rock’n’roll posters.

Mikael Brockman interrupts: Their on their last song now……

Ok one last question, what do you brefer to drink in the bar?

Oh this is great, cuz hopefully I can get everybody that likes my music to give me gifts. Haha. I like different types of vodka. Vodkas from all over the world.

So if you have like a very special brand of vodka that you think I may not now about, which means that you might actually make it yourself in your own bathtub or something. I would like to actually taste that vodka. I like it a lot…..and your getting texted right now, haha.

(Taping the interview with my iPhone).

Haha it is my boss ”Is it inside or outside, and do they have beer?”

Haha

I’m not gonna take your time anymore.

Thank you Malin!

Thank you!
